Heroic Actions of Gulab Singh Lead to Canadian Life Saver Award

Recipient of the 2023 Q3 Canadian Life Saver Award: Gulab Singh

In a dramatic turn of events on September 16, 2023, Tactical Security Guard Gulab Singh displayed extraordinary bravery during a fire at the Samesun Hostel in Vancouver. Singh, stationed at the hostel, was preparing for his break around 2:00 AM when he noticed smoke on the CCTV cameras.

Upon investigating, Singh discovered a massive fire engulfing the rear of the building. Reacting swiftly, he pulled the fire alarm and instructed a bystander to call 911. Singh then began the critical task of evacuating over 200 sleeping residents from the hostel. His quick thinking and decisive actions undoubtedly saved numerous lives that night.

This incident underscores the vital role of on-site security guards in responding to emergencies in hotels and residential buildings. The outcome could have been catastrophic without Singh's presence and prompt response.

To honour his life-saving efforts, Singh was awarded the prestigious Lifesaver Medal and a Certificate of Honor at a ceremony held at Blackbird Security’s head office.

About the Canadian Security Lifesaver Association

The Canadian Security Lifesaver Association® (CSLA) celebrates instances where security professionals’ actions have directly resulted in saving lives. Established in 2019 by Paragon Security, this non-profit organization aims to enhance public perception of the private security industry and promote collaboration between government, law enforcement, and the private sector.

CSLA acknowledges that the efforts of security personnel often extend beyond policing and enforcement. Many incidents, where lives have been saved due to the direct intervention of security professionals, go unrecognized. The organization seeks to highlight these heroic actions and raise awareness of their contributions to Canadian society.

Membership in the CSLA includes several leading Canadian security companies, united in a non-partisan and non-competitive effort to recognize the critical work of security professionals across the country.

The Canadian Security Lifesaver Association is dedicated to recognizing security professionals and raising awareness of their significant contributions to the safety and well-being of Canadians.
