Blackbird Security’s Commitment to Inclusion & Diversity Policy

The past two weeks have been turbulent with civil unrest across the U.S. and Canada. Blackbird Security is rooted in our commitment to inclusion and diversity.Today, we want to share with you some important highlights of Blackbird Security’s diversity policy

Our Core Values

In our diversity policy, our Director Ranko Vukovic writes:

In light of the current situation and conflicts, Blackbird Security realizes that we must reinforce our organization’s core values, vision and mission statement to ensure that we are a strong ally in standing for equality and justice. We are committed to this continuous journey of learning and growth and will continue to equip our staff with the training and resources necessary to keep our communities safe in a way that is non-discriminatory and unbiased.

We believe that a better future is predicated on safe and connected communities. This vision cannot be met if disrespect and discrimination are at play. In all our work, we are guided by our core values of respect, integrity, teamwork and adaptability. These values are built on pillars of embracing inclusion and directly influence our diversity policy.

Commitment to Diversity

Our hiring practices are centered on an applicant’s skills and performance—regardless of identity. We do not discriminate or profile based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, disability, marital status, economic status, sexual orientation, or any other identity factors. It is our ardent belief that diversity strengthens our team and helps us serve our clients better.

Blackbird Security prohibits staff behaviour that is considered violent, harassment or discriminatory. All of our staff are trained in de-escalation and arrests must only be made on reasonable grounds. In our hiring practice and during security incidents, we do not condone discrimination.

As a company we are committed to improving Indigenous awareness. This commitment includes employment opportunities, staff education and community involvement. Approximately 5% of our workforce identifies as Indigenous and we hope and expect this number to rise. The diversity of our team has helped us grow into one of Western Canada’s leading security providers

Enforcement of our Diversity Policy

A diversity policy without enforcement is just a written document with good intentions. We take our commitments seriously and will enforce our diversity policy in the following ways:

  • Provide all employees with sufficient training
  • Actively monitor employee feedback
  • Review the policy annually and update as appropriate
  • Enforce the policy on a case-by-case basis
  • Ensure the policy is communicated to current and new employees
