New Industries in 2024

This year, Blackbird Security expanded its offerings into several new industries, allowing us to adapt our services to meet unique security challenges. We successfully entered the aviation security sector and strengthened our presence in institutions and large-scale event venues.

Aviation: Our partnership with CargoJet marked our entry into aviation security, where we provide specialized security for cargo operations.

Our security teams now help create safer learning environments across multiple campuses, protecting students, faculty, and staff.

Large-scale events: We safeguarded several large-scale arena concerts this year at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver. Our teams developed and executed comprehensive security strategies for concerts including Bryson Tiller and Kid Laroi, ensuring the success and safety of every event.

Blackbird Security at Conferences in 2024

Our CEO, Ranko Vukovic, presented at the Retail Security Conference 24 as one of the RCC Fast Five speakers. His presentation discussed minimizing retail loss by strategically combining loss prevention operatives and tactical security guards, highlighting how these two retail security roles can positively impact loss prevention and inventory recovery.

Our team additionally attended 2024’s NRF Protect and PM Springfest to share security industry insights and connect with businesses. Through these conferences, we gained valuable industry insights and strengthened our relationships with security professionals across North America.

Giving Back to Communities

Every year, we strive to support our communities across Canada beyond security duties. As Blackbird Security grows, we're immensely proud to have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the communities we serve.

We believe in the power of community and the importance of supporting initiatives that foster growth, learning, and development for our youth. To this end, we’re proud to have partnered with Best Buy in raising over $12,000 for the South Coast Boys and Girls Club (BGC) at the Annual BC Softball Tournament this year. We additionally sponsored the Ridge Meadows Minor Softball Association girls’ softball team in 2024 to help kids pursue their passion for sports.

Blackbird Security is committed to supporting the Indigenous community in Winnipeg and throughout Canada. Earlier this year, we were honoured to donate our security services for a Circles for Reconciliation event in Winnipeg. This initiative promotes reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples through meaningful dialogue and understanding. It was a privilege to help contribute to the event's success.

Blackbird Security Heroes of 2024

Beyond just protecting property, a security guard’s duty is to protect the safety of those around them including our clients, their employees, and customers. Two Blackbird Security guards who took action to save lives stand out as exemplary members of our team in this regard:

Gagandeep Manj was at the scene when a national client’s employee was stabbed while on duty. Acting quickly and utilizing key techniques learned through our training programs, Gagandeep stabilized the victim before emergency medical responders arrived on the scene. As a result of his quick action, the victim fully recovered. Gagandeep handled this life-threatening situation admirably and exemplified Blackbird values in the process.

Blake Kyle Pfannenschmidt assisted in the successful apprehension of a drunk driver while on duty in Peachland. Blake’s quick thinking and fast decision-making likely saved multiple lives. For his efforts and successful apprehension of the assailant, the City of Peachland has awarded Blake.

The Canadian Security Lifesavers Association awarded these exceptional guards for their bravery. Thank you, Gagandeep and Blake, for your outstanding actions in 2024!
