We’re extremely proud to announce our new long-term, working partnership with Fishing Lake First Nation Ventures, an economic development arm of Fishing Lake First Nation, an Anishnabe Nation located in Treaty 4 territory in Saskatchewan. Together, we’re working to create career opportunities in security for Fishing Lake First Nation members while growing our roster of excellent security guards across Canada.

About Fishing Lake First Nation

Fishing Lake First Nation is a Saulteaux Ojibway community with roots in the Treaty 4 territory of Saskatchewan. The Saulteaux peoples are a branch of the Ojibway Nations, who refer to themselves as Anishnabe, meaning “original people.” Fishing Lake First Nation has a proud history of leadership and resilience, and today operates a range of programs focused on economic development, education, housing, health, and cultural preservation for its members both on and off reserve.

• Provide dedicated mentorship and professional security training to community members entering the industry.
• Support community career fairs and employment outreach initiatives.
• Establish a bursary program and fund security licensing for members pursuing long-term careers in security.

These commitments reflect the same approach we take with our broader Indigenous community initiatives, including our longstanding Indigenous Bursary Program in partnership with the Justice Institute of British Columbia, and our annual donation of event security services to Circles for Reconciliation in Winnipeg.

Blackbird Security’s Commitment to Indigenous Communities In Canada

This partnership is the latest in a series of long-term commitments Blackbird Security has made to Indigenous communities in Canada. Our initiatives to support Indigenous communities include:

• Our Indigenous Bursary Program, in partnership with the Justice Institute of British Columbia, has helped fund Basic Security Training for Indigenous students facing financial barriers to entry since 2021.
• Our annual donation of event security services to Circles for Reconciliation in Winnipeg, an organization that brings Indigenous and non-Indigenous people together in respectful dialogue on National Indigenous Peoples Day in June.
• Our security team at the Winnipeg Millennium Library is 50% Indigenous, reflecting our commitment to creating meaningful employment opportunities within Winnipeg’s Indigenous community.
