Hero in Uniform: How Blackbird Security’s Akash Kumar Saved a Life at Station Mall

On Sunday, 29th June 2025, 26-year-old Tactical Guard Akash Kumar was stationed at the Station Mall in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
At approximately 4:30 pm, Kumar was on duty when he suddenly heard a woman calling for help. He then quickly noticed the 22-year-old woman being stabbed repeatedly by a man. At first, he thought they were a couple until he heard the woman screaming.
“She was screaming–like crying–and so I go there and hold the guy," Kumar said.
Without hesitation, Akash jumped into action. He intervened, separating the attacker from the victim, called 911, and safely pursued the suspect outside the mall—leading him away from the injured woman until police arrived. Thanks to his training and quick thinking, Akash just didn’t react bravely, he saved the woman’s life.
